Congrats to Ward on a very successful season

ANOTHER season ends with the sight of those two young girls in tears in The Cumberland News (May 16).
Now questions need to be asked: 1 Was it that Leeds were superior to Carlisle over two legs?
2 Was it the ref’s decision that cost us promotion?
3 Or, in reality, was it that there just wasn’t the depth of squad that the likes of Forest, Leeds or even Doncaster had?
I think it was the latter and who’s to blame for that?
Mr Ward said back in January that he had a good squad of players yet in the final nine games he made only two changes.
Why?
And come the games against Southend and Bournemouth he admitted the team “have no legs, they’re shattered”.
Why’s that then, Mr Ward?
Simple. Because there was no rotation, and why not, because you had little or no faith in the remainder of the squad.
I see that Luke Joyce has been offered a new contract, so why was he never seen at the end of the season?
The signings made by the manager have also been strange. I agree Horwood has done OK, as has Smith, but £75,000 on Cleveland Taylor?
Scott Dobbie is class, yet he is being played out of position when we needed to beat teams to gain automatic promotion. Scott should have been alongside Danny Graham gunning for goals.
I know injuries have been cruel this season to little Joe and Jeff Smith, also Reidy, but this should have been taken into account in January. Every team gets suspensions but Carlisle were not fully prepared for any.
On radio Mr Ward was asked about the futures of Westwood and Livesey. He said he was sure they would stay loyal. But why should they? What ambition is this club showing?
Still, there’s always next season. How many more seasons will we be saying that?
