Maryport crowned Division One champions

AFTER beating Cleator Moor Celtic in the League Cup final, Maryport won the U10 division one championship following a tightly-fought decider game, again against Celtic.
Both teams finished on equal points at the top of the division and a play-off match was necessary.
Though Maryport started the brighter going close on several occasions, Celtic scored the first goal through a good passing move and then, shortly afterwards, added a second.
Maryport fought back in the second half, forcing Celtic’s keeper to make a string of good saves.
He was eventually beaten though by Cuan Hurley and three minutes before time Jordan Miller produced a good cross which Aidan Clark volleyed home.
The game went to extra time but there were no more goals and so it all came down to penalties which Maryport won 4-3.
