LAKES College arts students have been displaying their work in an exhibition.
The artwork, which was on show in the college’s Learning Resource Centre, included sketches of a wounded heart and balls of husky hair in a bowl made from Marino lambswool.
The students, who have have just completed their BTEC National Diploma Art and Design, used the theme of roots as the starting point for their work.
Art tutor Shona Jones said: “This year we have had a very well-presented show with a great variation in style and technique.
“All the students have put in a lot of hard work and those who have applied for a place at university have all got one.”
Laura Poulson, 19, of Whitehaven, developed her own sportswear range called Femininity.
She said: “My exhibition began from clothes designs I started years ago and developed into graphic illustrations of the work.”
Lorraine Durham, 45, of Mossbay, Workington, created craft and textile designs including a wedding veil made out of wool, and a T-shirt featuring icons from the 50s and 60s. Lorraine said that she planned to open her own designer craft business if she got funding.
