Seven teams punished

SEVEN Tesco Cumberland league clubs have been fined and deducted three points for fielding unregistered players.

The seven are Cleator Moor Celtic, Frizington Whitestar, Hearts of Liddlesdale, Longtown, Silloth, St Margaret Mary's, and Windscale.

It also means the matches Cockermouth v Frizington Whitestar in the premier division, and Windscale v St Margaret Mary’s and Hearts of Liddlesdale v Wigton Athletic in division one have been declared void and must be re-played.

This will add to a fixture back log that has developed because of the poor weather.

Another four matches were lost due to the weather, making a third of fixtures lost in the first three weeks of the season.

Clubs are warned that the annual Christmas break may be cut short to just one week to cope as things are expected to get worse before they get better.
