Lowca lead

LOWCA lead the way after the opening clashes in the new Cumberland League division two season on Tuesday night.

Hat-tricks from both Richard Haile and Tony Tinkler helped them to a 62-7 victory over Salterbeck A.

Carl Ennis, Gary Johnstone, Carl Robinson, David Scott and Dave Colley also touched down for Lowca, with Keith Campbell slotting over nine goals.

Salterbeck A’s points all came from Ryan McClure, who added a try, conversion and a drop-goal.

Egremont are close on their heels, as they racked up the points difference with a 54-5 win over Seaton A.

Seaton’s lone try came from Jamie Nixon in the dying minutes of the game.

But the damage was done earlier as John Paul Brocklebank racked up a personal tally of 16 points from a try and six goals.

Matthew Whalley and Dave Butler both crashed over for braces, with further tries from Tony Robson, Blake Mahovic, Peter Bewsher, Richard Farrer and Rhys Davies, plus one goal from the boot of Warren Stainton.

Salterbeck’s first string got revenge for their seconds as they defeated new boys Lowca A 36-6.

Lee Jardine was on form with a try and six goals, to go with a brace from Tom Dixon and one each for James Motum, Paul Melville and Ross Cape.

Brian Scott touched down for Lowca and Nicky Anderson converted.

Flimby also got off to a good start, with a 22-6 victory at Great Clifton who could only muster a David Lyddington try and Nicky Wilson goal in reply.

Graham Thompson crossed the whitewash twice for Flimby, with Ross Tinkler and Gary McGraffin also touching down, the latter adding three goals.

It was a tough game at Kells A where they just had the edge over Frizington 18-14. Both sides bagged three tries each but it was the goal kicking from Kells that gave them the win.
