WORKINGTON Cricket Club have secured their second league title, much to the delight of captain Steven Benson.
And the 21-year-old says team spirit is the key to taking their second consecutive title.
He said: “All the lads have worked hard and it was great for me to be captaining a league winning team.
“We have had some great performances both individually and as a team and we hope that will continue next season.”
Workington, who finish their league campaign tomorrow away at Keswick, have only lost twice this year, and that is down to a settled team.
“We have all been playing together for five seasons now,” Benson said.
“We have gelled really well and that is beginning to show. Our recent success has been down to a settled team and long may it continue.”
Workington CC won the league last year and in 2005 the Higson Cup. But it is more than 30 years since the club had won a trophy.
Benson said: “I am delighted to be captain of a league winning side and we will be working very hard for the new season next April.
“We want to keep on doing well and our aim is to be champions again next year.”
