Athletic start for Red House

RED House Athletic have been late in starting their season but they opened with a clear-cut 5-1 win at Dearham in Workington Sunday League’s premier division.
Lee Sharpe (2), Simon Renkin, Liam Dowes and Mike Sewell got Athletic off to a flying start while Scott Lister replied for Dearham.
Northside and Bounty lead the way in the top flight but the Workington side has a game in hand. They beat Yankees 2-0 with Gareth O’Leary scoring both goals.
Bounty won 3-1 at Red Lion as Steven Stoddart, Darren Mulgrew and Jonathan Morgan found the target.
Referee Peter Crelling described the division one game between Vine Bar and Grasslot Welfare as a “cracker, played in the right spirit throughout” with plenty to entertain the spectators.
It finished 6-5 to the Welfare and was nip and tuck all the way before the Welfare grabbed the winner 10 minutes from the end.
Martin Sewell (2), Andrew Brown (2), Reece Morgan and Jeff Harris scored for Grasslot with Carl Stephenson (2), Lee Brogden, Chris Wilson and Craig Straughton netting for the Vine Bar.
Sharing the lead in division one with Grasslot are Senhouse Street and Borough FC with all three 100 per cent so far.
Senhouse Street had to work hard to win 4-3 at William Hill with goals from free-scoring Terry Wharrier (2), Carl Beattie and Gary Hunter. Paul Gartland, Mark Varty and Will Heaney kept William Hill in contention.
Borough FC had a good 5-1 win at Crosby with goals from Gareth Young (2), Lester Wilkinson, Lee McAllister and Daniel Pape. Dan Lucy scored for Crosby.
FC32 came out on top 6-1 against The Well with substitute Phil McLuckie leading the way with a second-half hat-trick. Scott Pears (2) and Darren Lumsden also scored. Gary Blackwell netted for The Well.
There were plenty of goals in division two with the four games producing 34.
Captain Nelson and Salterbeck, who are lording it at the top of the table, led the spree with eight apiece. Captain Nelson beat Letters Inn 8-0 while Salterbeck beat Glasson Rangers 8-1.
Andrew Lowes (2), Barry Murdock (2), Richard Barlow, Adam Tinnion, Gary Stephenson and Gary Pearson were on target for Captain Nelson while John Dakers (5), Brian Hodgson (2) and Ryan Semple netted for Salterbeck. Glasson’s goal came from Andrew Renwick.
The Seaton Village Pack Horse v Miners Arms game produced 10 goals. Seaton Village edged the encounter 6-4 as Andrew Bromley (2), Kevin Williams (2), Dan Ward and Craig Edmondson scored for them.
For Miners Arms Andrew Bezuszko (2), Chris Reay and Gavin Taylor made a game of it.
Flimby collected their first win when they beat Red House 6-1 with goals from David Young (2), Scott Lawson (2), Darren Wilson and Steffan Miller. Gary Hazelwood netted for Red House.
