CARLISLE City snatched the division one title in the Veterans’ League in dramatic style, beating Carlisle Zimmer’s 2-1.
The Zimmer’s had beaten City the previous week 3-2, leaving City needing to take all three points from the last game of the 2008 season.
Grasslot were one point in front of City before the game with a superior goal difference, so were hoping the Zimmer’s could take at least a point from the game.
The Zimmer’s took the lead midway through the first half when Stu Windsor scored, the Zimmer’s dominated the first half and were unlucky not to be further ahead than their 1-0 lead at half-time.
City hit back in the second half and equalised through Craig Milne. Mike Algeo scored the winner with 10 minutes remaining to take all three points and the league title.
The final of the 2008 Veterans’ County Cup between Moresby and Netherhall takes place this evening at Cleator Moor Celtic (7pm ko).
This is the first time a team from the second division has made it through to the final. Moresby will have it all to do against the current cup holders Netherhall.
