Goal fest in Sunday league President’s Cup

THE first round of the President’s Cup in the Workington Sunday League saw a glut of goals.
Eight ties produced 57 goals and a 2-1 win for Senhouse Street over Borough FC was the lowest scoring contest.
Top scorers were Vine Bar who beat Glasson Rangers 9-2 with goals from Craig Williams (4), Craig Straughton (3), Chris Wilson and Sean Gartland.
Gary Moore and Joseph Tracik were on target for the losers.
Two games saw nine goals in each – the best being Flimby’s 5-4 victory over Crosby.
Darren McKenzie, Scott Lawson, David Young, Darren Wilson and Steve Scholey were on the mark for the winners with Lee Wood (2), Jonathan Penn and Dan Lucey netting for Crosby.
In the other nine-goal affair Red House Athletic had a little bit more in hand as they beat Miners Arms 6-3. Liam Dowes led the way with four of them and Andrew Metherell and Alan Berry were also on target.
Miners Arms goals came from Andrew Marshallsea and Andrew Bezuszko.
Northside and Deer Orchard were involved in a seven-goal thriller when Michael O’Leary became the match hero.
He grabbed a hat-trick which tipped the scales 4-3 in Northside’s favour.
Kyle Galea was also on the mark while Jackson Relph (2) and Daniel Burns netted for Orchard.
Least goals came in the all division one clash between Senhouse Street Club and Borough FC.
Gary Hunter scored both goals for Senhouse in their narrow 2-1 win with Gareth Young on the mark for Borough.
The three remaining ties all ended in emphatic victories for Bluebell, Grasslot Welfare and FC32.
Bluebell beat The Well 6-0 as Kevin Connolly helped himself to four goals. David Hill and Wayne Donoughee also netted.
Grasslot were 5-0 winners over Seaton Village with Gav Walling, Mark Brown, Martin Sewell, Scott Atherton and Daniel Herald finding the back of the net.
FC32 beat William Hill 6-1 in the eighth tie as both Stuart Bell and Gary Connolly claimed hat-tricks.
Fixtures – County Cup round one: Thornhill v St Bees Village, Crosby v Deer Orchard, Flimby v St Bees, Bransty v Wath Brow, Red Lion v Red House Athletic.
Premier: Yankees v Bluebell, Bounty v Northside.
Division one: Grasslot v Senhouse.
Division two: Red House v Miners Arms, Seaton v Captain Nelson.
Divisional Cup round one: Glasson Rangers v Borough.
