Carlisle Utd reserves draw at Accrington

A Carlisle United reserve side dominated by youth team players earned a battling 0-0 draw at Accrington – and glowing praise from coach Eric Kinder.
Only Jeff Smith, Chris Howarth and Darren Campion were in the United side from the pro ranks last night. The Blues almost ended a strong performance with victory, only for Andy Cook to hit the bar in the last minute.
“We had most of the ball, especially in the second half, and Chris Howarth didn’t have much to do,” said Kinder.
“The three senior boys were excellent, including Jeff Smith playing in an unfamiliar position up front.
“And the youth team players are growing up quickly. I like them to be tested against adults and they have come through this with flying colours. Hopefully we have got two or three here who can make that next step.”
UNITED: Howarth, Lakeland, Campion (capt), Aldred, Duffy, Law (Seaton), Blake, Davison, Tinnion, J Smith, Cook. Not used: Mitchell, Bowman, Wood, Cleary.
