Workington Comets face Redcar Bears in Young Shield semis
Last updated 13:46, Friday, 10 October 2008
Workington Comets will ride against Redcar Bears in the semi-final of the Young Shield next week.
The Bears became Workington’s preferred choice of opposition after the Isle of Wight had held onto their advantage in last night’s second leg at Sheffield.
Although the Tigers were successful 52-41 it wasn’t enough and the Islanders went through 97-83 on aggregate.
The Comets had announced earlier in the week that they would choose Sheffield if they won, but Redcar if they lost. The Isle of Wight will now ride against Berwick Bandits.
The first leg of the semi-final will be at Redcar next Thursday (Oct 16) and the return at Derwent Park on Saturday (Oct 18). If the home leg is rained off they will try the following day, Sunday, October 19.
In between, of course, on Friday October 17 they ride the second leg of the Knockout Cup final at Somerset.
- In a Stars of the Future meeting at Redcar last night Workington rookie Richard Lawson finished second behind Byron Bekker. Former Comets rider Scott James was third.
