Workington Reds physio Alan Currie has resigned after refusing to take a pay-cut.
Currie, who has been at the Borough Park club for four years, decided against taking a reported 10 per cent cut that was agreed to by the rest of the squad stating he “didn’t agree with what’s happened.”
The cut affected everyone on the playing side of including boss Darren Edmondson and his assistant Viv Busby.
Reds chairman Humphrey Dobie thanked Currie for all the work he has done and wished him well in future ventures.
“Alan was a good physio and he will be missed,” he said. “But that is football. We thank him for all the work he has done for us and wish him well in the future.”
Dobie added that the club will now be actively seeking a new physio.
Currie has dedicated Saturday’s to Reds, taking time away from his own practice in Langholm, Scotland, which includes personal training.
Reds will entertain Gateshead on Tuesday night – if the Tyneside outfit today avoid an FA Cup replay against Droylsden.
Gateshead had been due to visit Borough Park on Tuesday, October 21, for a league clash. But they have rearranged a Setanta Shield game against Blyth Spartans for that date.
If Gateshead draw at Droylsden, they replay on Tuesday night. Reds have no match today.
