Placement experience results in dream job
Last updated 15:43, Wednesday, 22 October 2008
SORRY I missed my column last month – life has been hectic since the start of the summer.
Between jollies I was contacted and asked to attend an interview where I was lucky enough to get myself a job.
It just goes to show how valuable a work placement really is, following up with contacts made while on placement with Cumbria County Council has resulted in a job supporting project managers at Capita Symonds in Carlisle.
I have always been keen to get involved in project management in the regeneration sector, so this is the ideal way for me to learn more about it on the job.
Unfortunately I missed the opportunity for the graduate scheme this year, but I hope to apply in 2009, and if accepted will be working toward my MSC in project management this time next year.
As a new starter naturally I felt a little nervous about my first day, but I soon felt very welcome.
I’ll be entering my fifth week by the time this month’s issue is published and so far so good – the time has flown by.
I love being back in the business environment and applying the skills and knowledge gained at university into real-life scenarios.
Capita is a fun yet professional company: everyone is very approachable should I need any questions answered, and thank goodness for that as there have been quite a few!
