The celebration, on October 10, saw students praised for their efforts in higher and further education over the past year.

Nearly 200 people attended the celebration evening, which saw 75 students awarded certificates and prizes.

Lakes College principal, Cath Richardson, said: “The awards ceremony was a great success, with more than 45 students collecting their higher education certificates and 30 further education students who were nominated by their tutors and sponsored by local businesses.

“Each year I look forward to celebrating the achievement of the students in front of parents, staff and dignitaries, and seeing the obvious sense of achievement on students’ faces when they pick up their awards makes me incredibly proud.”

Peter Hall, managing director at James Walker & Co, was guest speaker at the ceremony along with student speaker, Emma Kennedy.

Special awards presented on the night included Halfpenny Prize for Science to Michael Wilson and the Tim Curtis Award from UCLan to Angela Mean and Sharan Stewart.

Special achievement awards were also given to students who had overcome difficult barriers to achieve their qualification.

The inspirational winners were Mitchell Bragg, Ana Crome, Alexander Doran, Scott Heaney, Andrew Rafferty and Daniel White.
