Puzzled over police parking priorities
Last updated 12:14, Thursday, 30 October 2008
I WAS interested to read an article in the Whitehaven News about the crackdown by the police and council on illegal parking.
Interested and puzzled. . . because when I have made complaints to the police about a similar problem in Workington, I have regularly been told that parking on double yellow lines is not something they deal with, it’s the council’s problem, and the council offices are always closed after 5pm so nobody deals with it.
Even when told that disabled access is being blocked they seem to take no action. I say seem, because I’ve reported the same cars sometimes on consecutive days, which you wouldn’t expect if they were being fined.
I’ve mentioned to them their Respect campaign, all to no avail.
As I’ve stated in this paper before, one of the places where people park on pavements is just around the corner from the police station and still it goes on.
Maybe we could have an exchange visit set up between Whitehaven and Workington police and see what happens?
It’s all about respecting other people’s right to go about their lives, and thinking about how your actions could affect someone else, but it’s also about those with the power, to stop those who show no respect to others.
