50-year club honours its talented youngsters

ELLENBOROUGH Athletic Club honoured its young athletes on the same night the club celebrated its 50th anniversary.
Ellenborough AC was formed in 1958 by the late Raymond Thompson of Maryport, and the club is still going strong. Thompson’s granddaughter Fiona is membership secretary and jumps coach at the club.
The club offers athletics coaching for children between the ages of seven and 17, with training at Netherhall Sports Centre, Maryport, on Mondays at 6pm.
Prize winners on the night were Iggessund Trophy, Connor Faulder; Bill Cameron Trophy, Rachel King; Best Boy Trainer, Brad King; Best Girl Trainer, Tania Wilson; Most Improved Male Athlete, Matthew Ridley; Most Improved Female Athlete, Katie Johnson.
Boy with Most Potential, Stephen Crake; Girl with Most Potential, Alexandra Hutton; Club Boy, Thomas Adams; Club Girl, Jade Miller; Boy with Most Cumbria League Points, Sam Cummings; Girl with Most Cumbria League Points, Carmen Friel; Boys’ Excellent Performance Award, Sam Johnston; Girls’ Excellent Performance, Hannah Bethwaite.
Sports Boy of the Year, Sam Cummings; Sports Girl of the Year, Carmen Friel; The Jackie Oakes Memorial Trophy for Outstanding Achievement was awarded to Laura Park.
