Who is your Haven player of the year?

Whitehaven had a host of stand-out performers this year, with Ade Adebisi (A) proving their top try-scorer in his first season at the Recre.

The winger crossed only twice in his first seven matches as he bedded in to his new club, but he went on to score 22 in 30 matches, missing only one game.

His 10 tries in the last 10 matches of the campaign marked him out as a classy finisher.

Ever-present skipper Gary Broadbent (B) went one better in terms of appearances, and while he scored only five tries, the full-back was as safe as ever in defence, yet again producing a phenomenal work-rate. He bowed out of the club following the play-off defeat at Salford, in his 85th consecutive game, a Haven record.

At the other age of the age spectrum was Gregg McNally (C). For a teenager who played only nine times for the first-team, he made a huge impact. The 17-year-old would have seen more action, following his memorable hat-trick against Salford on debut in May, but missed five games while on England Under-18 duty in Australia. The half-back followed up with another hat-trick in the remarkable play-off win at Halifax, including one from deep in his own half.

Perhaps Haven’s most consistently creative player over the campaign was Leroy Joe (D). The Kiwi veteran was used off the bench in the opening four games of the season but went on to cement a starting place, whether he had six, seven, nine or 13 on his back.

Filling in for suspended hooker Graeme Mattinson in the final three matches, he took to the new role superbly.

Another Kiwi to make a major impact was Karl Edmondson (E). The prop was a stand-out player in an impressive pack that spent much of the season on the front foot. He was the only forward not to miss a match all season.

A rival for honours will be Howard Hill (F), so cruelly hit by serious illness in the final weeks of the campaign. He enjoyed arguably his best season at the Recre at the grand age of 33, often in the second-row but proving just as effective at prop.

The award will be presented at Haven’s annual presentation night on November 7.
