Birthday shout-out for Lulu, 60
Last updated 14:09, Monday, 03 November 2008
YOU won’t believe the number of singing artists celebrating birthdays this coming week, all of them having made an important contribution to the music world during the past few decades.
Tomorrow, Brian Poole and Chip Hawkes, from Sixties group The Tremeloes will be celebrating their 67th and 62nd birthday respectively.
On Monday can you believe that Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie will be 60 years old?
Since her first single Shout was released in 1964, Lulu has become an international star and the only female artist to have appeared on Top Of the Pops in each of the last five decades.
She shares her birthday with Adam (from Adam and the Ants) who will be 54 and also on the same day, back in 1933, John Barry, who formed the John Barry Seven was born, making him 75.
Born on Guy Fawkes night in 1941 was Art Garfunkel, part of the singing duo Simon and Garfunkel and he shares the same date with that young lad Herman (aka Peter Noone) who used to front The Hermits. He will be 61, and Everything I Do singer Bryan Adams will be 49.
Pony-tailed PJ Proby will be celebrating his 70th birthday on Thursday. He is still touring the country but minus the split trouser routine, which made him more famous than his singing.
