Bridget Stanley: ’No cost to parents’

The club has been launched in West Allerdale by Safer Roads for Cumbria and Barnardo’s.

The scheme, which aims to provide road safety education with a fun theme, aims to promote long term awareness of road safety to children and their parents.

Road Safety Officer Bridget Stanley, who is organising the traffic club at Flimby Child and Family Centre, said: “Children can enrol in the club through a leaflet we will be distributing in the area and they will receive a set of story books over six months, stickers for club activities and a CD with stories and songs to teach important road safety messages.

“There is no cost to parents as the scheme is being funded by the Cumbria Road Safety Partnership and the structured fun theme is reinforced through introducing the children to characters such as Rhonda Red, Larry Look, Lucy Listen and Sammy Seatbelt.”

The launch will be at Flimby Child & Family Centre in Sand Lane, off Brook Street, on Friday, November 14 at 2pm when Barnardos West Allerdale Children’s Centre staff will be running a session for families featuring the children’s traffic club materials.
