Last updated 22:40, Sunday, 23 November 2008
Acclaimed Bolton comedian Dave Spikey and Scottish singing star Barbara Dickson will both perform at the Civic Hall in Whitehaven early next year – and tickets for both shows are available now.
Dave Spikey is bringing his brand of slightly surreal stand-up comedy to the venue in Lowther Street on Friday, March 20.
Dave has been a regular fixture on the comedy circuit for 20 years but is best known for his TV appearances, most notably with Peter Kay on Phoenix Nights, which he co-wrote and in which he played the part of Jerry St Clair, “the compere without compare”.
He also co-wrote and starred in comedy dramas Dead Man Weds and Magnolia, was a team captain on two series of Eight out of 10 Cats and took over from Jim Bowen as host of gameshow Bullseye.
Barbara Dickson’s career in music stretches back more than 40 years to the 1960s, when she first began singing at folk clubs in her native Dunfermline.
She has been recording since the 1970s and made regular guest appearances in the singing spot on The Two Ronnies that decade.
In 1984 she reached number one in the charts in a duet with Elaine Paige, I Know Him So Well from the musical Chess More recently Barbara has also acted in TV dramas such as Band of Gold, Taggart and The Missing Postman.
Her UK tours regularly sell out, and she will be appearing in Whitehaven on Sunday, February 1. Tickets for her show cost £26.50 and those for Dave Spikey cost £17.50.
