SPORTSWEAR firm Adidas has offered teenage running star Laura Park a sponsorship deal.
The 16-year-old Dearham girl, who is world mountain running champion and who holds West Cumbria’s hope for representation on the athletics field at the 2012 Olympics, said she was shocked but delighted to hear from the company.
Adidas has offered to provide her with all her kit, including trainers and spikes, as well as paying for accommodation when she is away and giving her money towards travelling expenses.
She does not know how much the deal is worth in monetary terms but said it would be a substantial amount.
Laura travels around the country and abroad for her track, cross country and fell racing.
It is not only industry giants who are willing to help the young sporting star, however.
This week Mark and Gail Howard who own the Maryport fancy dress shop, Party Nites, presented Laura with a cheque for £500.
The couple said they have been involved with the school and have a daughter in Laura’s class.
“We have watched Laura’s performances and we wanted to help,” said Mark.
