Centre Jason Mossop has penned a new one-year deal at Workington Town.
Mossop, 23, has given the club a huge boost ahead of the 2009 season by agreeing to stay at Derwent Park for another term.
The Student international, who lives in Leeds, will play a key role in coach Dave Rotheram’s plans for the new season.
Club chairman Dave Bowden said: “We are delighted to have secured Jason’s services again.
“He is an aggressive centre, strong with the ball in hand and very determined in the tackle. Jason will complement an exciting back line that we are hoping to build for the forthcoming season.”
The former Hensingham amateur, whose younger brother Lee is at Wigan Warriors, first came to Town on loan from Batley back in 2007. He then signed for the 2008 season and ran in 10 tries in 27 appearances.
Mossop played his part in the Student World Cup over the summer, helping Wales to fourth spot in Australia.
He scored four tries in five World Cup games, two against New Zealand in the third/fourth-place play-off, a games Wales lost 24-18 after leading 18-0 with 30 minutes remaining, and one in the group stages against France. And he benefited from the experience, returning and scoring two tries in his first game back for Workington against Hunslet.
Workington Town coach Dave Rotheram is due back in the country at the end of this week, following his stint as Scotland assistant coach at the World Cup.
Rotheram is expected back on Friday and will then have a week to whip his Workington players into shape for their clash with the Australian Fijians on November 30 at Derwent Park.
The players are going into pre-season training with assistant coach Craig Barker, who will take charge until Rotheram returns.
