Accrington Stanley 0 Carlisle Utd 3: Carlisle United's youth team stole a march on their senior counterparts by cruising through their own cup tie last night.
The young Blues were always on top against Accrington as they secured a third round home tie against Stockport or Crewe in the FA Youth Cup.
Prolific forward Andy Cook fired home in the sixth minute and strike partner Ryan Bowman doubled United's lead before half-time at the Fraser Eagle Stadium.
Liam Davison wrapped up victory midway through the second half leaving coach Eric Kinder happy with his players' efforts.
"We came through it comfortably," said Kinder. "We never really got out of second gear but three-nil doesn't flatter us at all.
"We know we can play better. But it was a cup game and cup games are about results first and foremost.
"We fully deserve to be in the third round and we can look forward to another decent night at Brunton Park."
Kinder, whose side memorably reached the quarter-finals last season, said centre-half duo Tom Aldred and Jamie Cleary were on strong form against Stanley, and praised Cook and Bowman for their clinical work at the other end.
Stockport and Crewe play on Thursday and a date has yet to be set for the third round tie. Carlisle are next in action in the Alliance Cup against Mansfield on Saturday (Gillford Park, 12pm).
United: Mitchell, Lakeland, Duffy, Aldred (c), Cleary, Law (Seaton), Blake, Davison, Tinnion, Cook (Sloan), Bowman (McDougall). Not used: Gillespie, Swinglehurst.
