Recycling pledges: Megan Telford, 10, from Thomlinson Junior School in Wigton

Thomlinson Junior School pupil Megan Telford, 10, won a holiday at Center Parcs for her whole family after her scratch card entry was pulled from a hat.

The prize came after green-minded primary pupils across Cumbria collected the recycling pledges in the three-year Recycling Rewards for Schools campaign.

The competition, run by Cumbria County Council’s waste partnership Resource Cumbria, helped achieve a 50 per cent increase in the amount of household waste that gets recycled in Cumbria.

Martin Allman, the council’s waste prevention manager, said: “The prize is fully deserved and although the campaign is now over, recycling is still really important and we want to remind everybody who made a pledge to carry on the good work and recycle as much of their household waste as they can.”
