Avant-garde electro-punk
Last updated 05:17, Friday, 21 November 2008
Tomorrow night is the last Motive Sounds of the year and, as you’d expect, they’ve lined up a whole night of sweltering avant-garde electronic punk with Youthmovies, Adam Gnade, Over The Wall and Motive Sounds’s own DJs.
Youthmovies (who supported Foals earlier this year) deliver energetic, passion-fuelled live performances. Their music flies in the face of convention, utilising live guitars and drums and fusing lo-fi electronica and punk-inspired distortion. Kerrang called them ‘clever, original - and sadistically unpredictable’. Doors 8pm-2am. Tickets £8 on the door/£6 advance, available from Ruby Blue Vintage, Carlisle.
Kono Michi plays The Brickyard on Tuesday. Recent Kono Michi & The Stone Ghost Collective EP Grey Eulogy features a cover of Bacharach/David’s The Look Of Love with tasty harmonies, a Serge Gainsbourg influenced rhythm track and a Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli style fiddle‘n’guitar ‘jazz-out’ at the finale.
