SILLOTH farmer John Graham has been named the World’s Biggest Liar for the seventh time – honestly.
John, famously known as Johnny Liar, beat off tough competition last night at the annual event held at Santon Bridge with his story about his trip to Whitehaven.
In his story, he was chased by six police cars, as his pony – Daisy – who was pulling him in a trap, got scared by loud noises and bolted through the streets.
When John and Daisy arrived at The Beacon in Whitehaven, they found crowds of people lining the streets, who they thought were waiting for him - but in fact they were greeting the Queen.
“Some fool called Tommy [Mattinson the gurning champion] grabbed the collar off Daisy and pulled funny faces at the Queen and scared her out of her wits,” said John. He then got arrested, but later released as all of the cells in the police station were packed with Status Quo fans. John got into a wheelie bin and was pulled by Daisy along the seabed, past Robin Rigg wind farm, to Scotland collecting fish along the way.
Connie Kitching, daughter of Tom Purdham who won the first contest 30 years ago, came back to support friend Glen Boylan, who came third, with his story about eating fells as a good diet. Second went to Mike ‘Monkey Liar’ Naylor with his tale about being thrown out of heaven.
