Tasting the world

Flavours from around the world are tempting diners at Carlisle’s Circle Bar. Owner Seth Nicholson has spiced up the menu on offer to shoppers and those in search of tasting something different this Christmas.
Seth explained: “We’re trying to venture into something a little bit different and give people something that they won’t find anywhere else in Carlisle.
“We make everything ourselves, from our own chicken liver pate and ravioli to all the puddings,” added Seth.”
All the dishes are made by Seth, wife Lynn and chef Stephen Campbell.
The bar is in the Edwardian Lowther Arcade which has recently undergone a facelift.
The new starters include chicken liver pate, herbed mushroom and sundried tomato raviolin and rest pesto and feta cheese bruschetta.
Mains feature Massaman Thai curry, a chicken curry with peanuts, ginger and coconut milk, served with basmati rice; spicy beef burger with chunky tomato salsa and a poached free range egg served side salad and saute potatoes; Barramundi fish steak (a type of Australian cod) with green rice and tequila sauce and beef roulade with pesto and couscous.
Puddings are rich and satisfyingly gooey, with Eton mess, lemon posset and sticky toffee pudding to tempt.
Prices are around £3.95-£4.95 for starters with mains costing from £8.50-£10.95 and desserts around £4.50.
The dishes are available from Monday to Thursday from 5.30-8.30pm and there’s a special two-course menu priced £13.50.
For the more traditional, Seth is also offering a three course Christmas menu of turkey with all the trimmings for £17.50.
The Christmas menu also offers roast beef and a vegetarian Christmas crunch casserole as alternatives.
