EAGLESFIELD Paddle Primary School has raised more than £350 for Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team.

Pupils raised the cash by holding a disco and harvest festival earlier this year.

The money will allow the mountain rescue team to buy new and updated equipment.

Headteacher Rod Coy said: “Each year the children pick a charity to raise money for and this year they decided to raise money for the Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team.

“This is partly because the mountain rescue team holds activities during the school year, taking the children out and showing them what they do on rescues.

“It has an educational side as well so allows the children to have fun and learn at the same time.

“It is our way of saying thank you to them as they do a fantastic job and give up a lot of their time to save people.”

Mike Park, team leader for the mountain rescue team, said the money will buy new torches.

He added: “It is amazing to get this kind of support in the local area, especially from children, and the new equip-ment will make our job a lot easier.”
