A NEW vicar has joined the Maryport, Netherton and Flimby team ministry.
The Rev Susan McKendry, 53, has moved to Maryport from the benefice of Allonby, Crosscanonby and Dearham.
She will have special responsibility for St Mary’s and Christ Church.
Mrs McKendry worked in the sewerage department of United Utilities until she became a vicar in 2002.
She said: “I’ve gone to church since I was just a few weeks old, and becoming a vicar seemed a natural progression of my faith.”
She was born in Workington but spent the first nine years of her life in Vancouver in Canada where her father, Charles Gregory, managed a theatre.
She is married to Robert, of Maryport, who works for British Gas.
Mr McKendry is a keen musician who played for Flimby Band and is now a member of Dearham Brass Band.
The couple have three daughters and a son.
