Clubs pay for lack of numbers

LILLYHALL and Abbeytown could only find two couples in their away games at Marchon and paid the price, with the home team claiming 6-3 and 5-4 wins.
Claire Adams with Hayley McTear for Lillyhall and Lorraine Graham with Carol Harrington of Seascale were unbeaten.
Sue Alderton and Fiona Leek, Lyndsey Carver with Pam Mitchell and Adrian Rankin with Morag Sharp were 9-0 winners in their home match against Maryport.
In the men’s league, Seascale’s David Faulkner and Mat Key were the team’s only winners against Solway, Stuart McGlennon with Peter Murphy and Malcolm Greyson with Darren Scales and Andrew White, Neil Blair and Frank Underwood were unbeaten in Maryport’s 6-3 home win against Marchon.
The Whitehaven team suffered a similar defeat at home to Lillyhall 6-3, with Paul Booth and Graham Salisbury and Peter Rand with Andy Davidson claiming maximums.
In mixed division one, Abbeytown claimed two home wins in November – 9-0 against Seascale and 7-2 against Cockermouth – with Neil Blair and Carol Harrington, Stuart Dunbar and Anne Ford, Scott Morrison and Lorraine Graham and Colin Satterthwaite with Lorraine Graham unbeaten.
Cockermouth were in great form at home against one of the top teams in the league, Lillyhall, winnng 5-4 with an excellent maximum from Barry Wilkinson and Rae Larmour.
In the mixed division, Graham Lowery and Yvonne Wilkinson and Graham Robinson with Chris Steel were unbeaten in Marchon firsts’ 7-2 away win at Seascale seconds. The Seascale side came out 5-4 winners away at Marchon seconds.
Cumbria firsts lost their opening match of the season against Staffordshire. The second team lost away to Northumberland 8-7 then won at home to Durham thirds 14-1.
