THREE Cumbrian men have appeared in court following a police operation targeting scrap metal raids.

Peter Kane, 48, of Salterbeck Drive, Workington, was charged under the Proceeds of Crime Act in relation to the sale of scrap metal in May and theft of a national insurance card on September 8.

He appeared at West Allerdale Magistrates Court on Friday.

Kane did not enter a plea and elected for his case to be heard at Carlisle Crown Court.

He was granted unconditional bail until January 8.

Stephen Lee McIvor, 24, of St John’s Court, Close Street, Carlisle, appeared charged with theft of general scrap metal belonging to B&Q on June 26 and under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

He indicated a guilty plea and was granted unconditional bail until December 12.

Raymond Torley, 57, of Newlands Gardens, Workington, pleaded not guilty to two charges of theft and three instances of failing to notify authorities about changes to social security details.

His alleged thefts amounted to £6,462.

Torley was released on unconditional bail.
