Marmalade will switch on lights
Last updated 19:32, Thursday, 27 November 2008
MARYPORT’S Christmas lights will be switched on this Sunday by 1960s chart group Marmalade.
The lead-up to the switch-on will be held at what was formerly the British Legion Club in Mealpot Road.
Children and adults will be able to make lanterns or Christmas cards, buy Christmas gifts or refreshments from charity stalls and be entertained by Cheekie Charley. There will also be a visit by Santa Claus.
The main event, starting at 3pm, will be an hour-long free concert by Marmalade, famous for their chart-topping version of the Beatles’ Ob-la-di Ob-la-da.
The Scottish group will lead a lantern procession to the Memorial Gardens where the lights will be turned on this year.
The party will start at 11am and admission is free.
