Last updated 10:10, Friday, 28 November 2008
PLANS for Cockermouth’s new community hospital moved a step closer yesterday after its business case plan was approved.
NHS Cumbria approved the plans for the £14.6 million ‘health village’ at a meeting in Millom last night.
Following the decision the Cockermouth plans will now be submitted to the region’s strategic health authority, NHS Northwest.
If the plans receive regional approval, a full business case will be produced and planning permission sought early next year.
It is hoped work will start sometime next year and the new hospital could be open by 2011.
