Xmas spirit is alive at Tullie

RE: The Reiver’s article entitled ‘Seasonal’ city not the same (News & StaR, November 24).

Season’s greetings: A Christmas Carol at Tullie House last year. Marketing assistant Lynsey Forrester says ‘Christmas’ is definitely not avoided

We at Tullie House would like to reassure The Reiver that use of the word “Christmas” is definitely not to be avoided here.

Indeed it is to be welcomed, with many of our staff already feeling festive and ready to welcome members of the public to our range of Christmas activities.

The phrases “Season’s Greetings,” and “Compliments of the Season” first began to appear on Christmas cards in the late 19th century – a time long before political correctness gripped the nation and the word “Winterval” was dreamed up.

So The Reiver can sleep soundly in his bed tonight knowing that our use of the word “seasonal” in the title of one of our art workshops was in no way motivated by a misplaced desire to be PC.

May we take this opportunity to extend an invitation to The Reiver to visit us on December 13, when we are holding our Great Big Christmas Fun Day complete with decoration workshops, a mini-pantomime and Christmas themed magic and comedy? He will be assured of a warm welcome and will see for himself that the Christmas spirit is alive and well at Tullie House.
