Don’t waste time on trivial mistakes

After reading the article in the News & Star about the man who was issued with a parking fine in Myddleton Street (November 26), I know exactly how he feels.
Last year I had to take time off work to take my elderly mother to the doctors.
It was a very cold and wet day and we returned to her house in Myddleton Street, I parked my car displaying her disabled disc and photo. I had only left my car for a matter of minutes when a warden was slapping a fine on my window.
When I asked why, he told me that the disc was upside down and the law said it must be displayed in the correct manner.
He showed no concern that I was helping an old and sick lady into her house for a few minutes, and he just acted like a robot saying “I am only doing what I am trained for.”
I was so upset that I wrote to Carlisle City Council and refused to pay for this injustice. Thankfully they let me off with a caution but I was told off like a naughty school boy, telling me I must promise never to do this terrible crime ever again.
If only someone was doing something about the real crime in the community, and stop wasting decent citizens’ time and money, the world would be a better place.
