UNIVERSITY of Cumbria students are celebrating after recently receiving three awards at this year’s Royal Television Society (RTS) Awards in Gateshead.

BA Media Production students Andrew Elliot, Gary Cupid and Hannah Merridale picked up the top award for Drama, on behalf of a team of film-makers, with their short experimental movie Minos.

BA Multi Media, Design and Digital Animation undergraduates Ian Wharton and Ed Shires won top animation prize with Solar. Media Production students James Turner and Ken Johnson also won a commendation in the Drama category with their film Billy.

The students were presented with their awards at a ceremony at The Sage in Gateshead. All the entries were in the student category, and beat off competition from colleges and universities across the region.

Rob Charters, Course Leader for Media Production said: “It’s wonderful to see our students gaining regional and possibly national recognition for the hard work they do. An event like this gives them a chance to showcase their talent.”
