Maryport Social close gap

NOT all the results are at hand up to the Christmas break but there was a shock for the first division leaders John St as they were soundly beaten by 5-1 frames at Maryport Social.

The win moves Maryport into second spot and only two points behind John St.

Kevin Henderson made a 25 break in his defeat of Tony Elliot, and Ivor Messenger made a 34 as he beat Allan Stephenson. Peter O’Hagan did make a break of 28 but he still came second to John Fleming.

Surprise team Seaton moved up to third with a draw against Clifton while the Railway drop to fourth after their week off.

Ellenboro moved clear of the bottom three with a 5-1 home victory against the Senhouse B team.

No result from Senhouse’s other team who were playing the Derwent Club.

In the second division it’s last season’s relegated team Workington Legion who still lead the way after their 5-1 win at the Trades Hall.

Maryport Social B stay in second despite only drawing at the Flimby Club.

Station Road, who could not play due to the club’s commitments over the Christmas period, remain in third.

No result from Derwent B who were playing Brigham.

Not many competition results to hand in fact as yet there are no doubles results at all, only three singles and two seven-a-sides.

One of those sevens was a close call for first division Railway who only narrowly beat the second division’s basement boys Flimby 4-3 to prove that the handicap system does make for more exciting matches.

All players are reminded that the closing date for the competition is January 18 and any outstanding result cards should be forwarded on and don’t forget that any matches that have not been played yet will cost the clubs a point a week until they are.
