Last-gasp penalty kick costs Windscale

A LAST-GASP penalty cost Windscale a point at home to high-flying Jarrow.
Going behind after an early goal from Jon Matthews spurred Windscale on. They began to enjoy the lion’s share of possession and, from a cross by youngster Dan Morgan, Peter O’Donnell was on hand to head in an equaliser.
Andrew McDonald had a goal disallowed before Windscale did take the lead immediately after half-time through Ryan Fitzwilliam.
Jarrow responded and had the home side penned in their own half and keeper James Dolan pulled off some vital saves. However, the pressure eventually told when Andrew Williamson beat Dolan with 20 minutes to play.
Windscale played with renewed energy to try and find the winner, but when Simon Borrowdale was adjudged to have brought down Jarrow substitute Todd, Craig Armstrong converted the penalty to deny Windscale what would have been a deserved point.
Whitehaven Amateurs won 3-0 at fifth-bottom Coxhoe Athletic with goals from Michael Farrer (2) and Stephen Hewitt, while Cleator Moor Celtic’s game at Sunderland Ryhope on Saturday was postponed.
