FUNDRAISING events are being held throughout this month to help send a group of West Cumbrian rugby players on a summer tour of Australia.
Wath Brow Hornets, Egremont Rangers and Hensingham all have representatives in the Cumberland County squad for June’s tour Down Under, and the clubs are doing all they can to support their players.
There is a night of music at the Hensingham club on Saturday (7.30pm start) to raise money for Kyle Amor and Matthew Labourne’s trip.
Kyle’s brother, Adam, will be performing, along with Gavin McKew and Steph Wars. And the Wath Brow club is the location of the fundraising event, on Friday, May 16, to help send their trio of Liam Martin, Philip Coyles and Richard Huby on the trip.
Egremont Rangers have already held a successful function last week, and have another planned for May 25, to raise money for their tour fund which will help send Richard Farrer and Rhys Davies away to represent Cumberland, and also for John Paul Brocklebank to represent Barla Under-18s on their tour of Australia in July.
The Cumberland squad, which also includes Millom’s Graham Lupton, Tom Sibley, Craig Wilson, Nathan Mossop, Dane Kelly and Elliott Miller, leaves on June 20 and is a mix of open age and under-19s.
