WEST Cumbria Law Society booked their place in the final of the Crisp & Rowell Shield after five of their players topped the 20-run mark.
Rob Allen (21 retired), Gary Stewartson (25 ret), Phil Jennings (25 ret), John Perkins (20 ret) and Nick Bowman (20 ret) all batted well in their side’s semi-final victory over Isel.
WCLS posted 144-8, restricted by the good bowling of Gareth Kelton, who took 2-7. Isel managed 115-9 with a 21 retired from Steve Bamforth and 20 retired from James Gate. Bowlers John Perkins (2-16) and Mike Rowell (2-7) helped keep Isel’s total down.
WCLS will be joined in the final by either Egremont or Cockermouth Colts. Egremont beat Maryport by default in the quarter-final after their opponents were unable to raise a team, while the Colts (106-6) beat Royal George (105-8).
Broughton took their place in the final of the Sandwith Roofing Cup after their semi-final win over Cockermouth Academicals.
Gary Swanson (25 ret), Mark Steadman and Dave Smith (both 22 retired), helped Broughton to their winning total of 142-6, to which Cockermouth could only respond with 108-8, thanks to top bowling from Swanson (2-9) and Steadman (2-6). Graham Spark and Hugh Carter each posted 20 for Cockermouth.
Distington qualified for the semi-finals after their opponents Allonby conceded. Distington will now meet the winner of the re-arranged Sandwith Roofing v BCMS match, and the winner of that game will play Broughton in the final.
In league action, Windscale Club, Seascale defeated Braithwaite Colts in Division One. Fine bowling from Pete Rooney (2-20) and Daniel Lee (2-17) restricted the Colts to 122-7, but Windscale achieved their total with the loss of only four wickets. Adam Brown and Robin Sparshott retired on 31 and 30 respectively, and Lee Fleet posted 26 not out.
In Division Two, Baggrow Seconds had too much on the day for Seascale Juniors. Andrew Smith (30 ret), Jason Pike (35 ret) and Fian Clark (25 not out) helped Baggrow to 151-7 and despite 30-plus scores from Clayton Lee, Stuart Dickinson and Daniel Lee, Seascale were restricted to 137, mainly due to the bowling of Jason Pike, who claimed 2-9.
