Kyza takes All-In win on comeback

THE Dog Produce takes centre stage this weekend with all roads leading to Gaisgill.
A very humid day greeted the huge entries ahead of the look-round for the Dog Produce course but it started disastrously.
Shortly after the senior slip, seven hounds were seen coming across towards the finishing end trailer, and these hounds went up the finish, so the trail was made void.
However, the majority of the 48 went the correct way and all got a look round ahead of the big meeting.
There were 71 pups and they did fine until half way down the finish, when the leading group put in a circle and largely put themselves out of the reckoning.
With so many involved in the race it wasn’t clear whether any got back among the tickets or not. Donna and Mike Bingham's Maisie won in a close finish from Della and Stardust.
Bitches filled five of the six tickets with the only dog Dairy Sound claiming fourth.
There was another close finish in the open restricted, won by Cracking Future from Superseven and High Command.
The All-In trail went to champion Westgate Kyza, who has been off with the cough for several weeks. He beat the two kennel-mates Arctic Summit and Dolly Daydreams.
So what of the Produce meeting this Saturday? Dairy Sound, a son of the 2006 champion Dairy One, will be fancied to collect the honours as his sire did in 2005.
There haven’t been many dogs who have won puppy trails this season but if you’re looking for one or two to be in the shout (provided they are running of course) you could look for Tell Tale, Wisla, Bon Jovi and Rough Diamond.
At Grange Grassings last Tuesday the 2006 puppy champion Mayfair scored her fourth senior win of the season. But it was pretty close before she got the better of Cracking Thore near home with the two well clear.
Bon Jovi finished best of all in the pups when the two leading groups split and he beat Cracking That nicely.
Easiest winner of the night, though, was Jedburgh who came home about 12 yards clear of Sandy Bay in the open restricted.
On Wednesday at Arlecdon Church, there was a real battle in the senior trail with Truthful beating Magenta by a head, but it needed the camera to confirm the judge’s decision. Hot Fuss was about three lengths behind in third place.
The open restricted winner Lofty was on his own and had 100 yards to spare but the rest came together and produced a good race for second with Warlord holding off Regularity
At Moor Farm on Thursday there was big attendance, which was in keeping with the nice night.
Only 10 seniors were slipped in the opener but it produced a close finish between the first two, Westgate Ruby beating Boreas by just a length for her first win of the season.
Unfortunately nearly all the 34 pups got onto the finishing end right after the slip, and the trail had to be declared void.
In the open maidens the veteran Outrageous, who has been running well, had an easy over Eden Rusty.
There were 39 in the All-In, and Wendy Martin's pair Salsa and Martaura finished close together a long way ahead of the rest, and in a fast time.
Saturday’s meeting at Arlecdon Church was rather overshadowed by the fact that they were running at Gaisgill as a pre-run before the Produce meeting there.
Whilst there were 227 runners at Gaisgill only 43 contested the four trails at Arlecdon Church but there were still four bookmakers in attendance and a good crowd.
Calzaghe was fancied close to home but was beaten a length by Hot Fuss in the senior trail but there was never any doubt about the pups where Negress won very easily, having about eight lengths to spare.
Mill Yard had a couple of lengths to spare over Cameo in the open maidens while Kinniside Dawn won by a similar margin in the open restricted.
On Monday at Crag Farm Hot Fuss beat Miss Dido by ten lengths in a nine-runner senior trail.
There were only ten pups but the first four had got clear before Aira Force asserted to beat Ellie Vee by five lengths who in turn was three lengths ahead of Alles Springs and the close-up Touch of Class.
The open maidens produced a good finish when any one of the first five could have won it. In the end Gendarme just did enough near the line to win by a length from Madison.
There were two meetings on Tuesday and at Bridekirk there was a terrific finish to the senior trail in which Show Girl beat Westgate Kyza by half a length with Cracking Thore a similar distance behind in third.
It was tight, too, in the pups but Cracking That had a length to spare over Busy Future at the line.
Six showed with a chance in the open maidens but it was Splendid Star who got there in the end to win narrowly.
It was a lovely evening at Staveley Head and the punters were treated to three close and exciting finishes.
The most thrilling was in the open restricted with Matty Brown and Huntsman's Charm neck and neck up the finish. In the end it was a very popular win for Matty Brown, who is owned by Keith Robinson of Bilsborrow.
Keith is the husband of Eileen, who does such great work running the Lakeland Trailhound Welfare.
Dairy Sound warmed-up for Saturday’s Dog Produce by finishing second to Habana in the pups with Claymore back in fourth and suggesting he could be a contender at Gaisgill.
Recent Arlecdon Church winner Truthful had to settle for sixth ticket behind Bethan’s Rascal in the senior trail while Paradox beat Jodie in the open maidens.
