GRASMERE SHOW has been chosen to participate in the London 2012 Olympics hand-over celebrations.
This Bank Holiday Sunday is the date of this year’s Grasmere Show and also the day on which the Beijing Olympic Games draw to a close and the Olympic flag is handed over to the United Kingdom.
Grasmere Show’s ceremony will be one of several hundred taking place in towns and cities across the UK to mark the occasion by raising a unique London 2012 flag.
The flag will arrive in the Grand Arena at 11.15am. The flag raising will take place at 2.30pm to coincide with the handover of the Olympic flag to the Mayor of London in Beijing.
Three local clubs have been asked to participate in Grasmere Sports. They are: The Ambleside Boxing Club, The Kendal Judo Club and the Kendal Fencing Club. They will each give a 45-minute display.
Other events at the show include hound trailing, Cumberland wrestling, fell racing, mountain-bike dash and tug o’ war.
Entrance is £7.50; children (five to 14 years) £2.50.
Other shows coming up include:
Black Combe Country Fair: Monday, August 25. Adjacent to Millstones Craft Centre Bootle, Millom, noon to 6pm.
Ennerdale Show: Wednesday, August 27.
Keswick Show, scheduled for Bank Holiday Monday at High Hill, Keswick, has been cancelled for the second year running because of the weather.
