Frizington run riot in cup

FRIZINGTON White Star ran riot over Parton United in the ISS Waterers Peter Dawson Benevolent Cup, winning 11-0.
White Star took the lead on nine minutes as Graham Carruthers fired home and goals flowed at regular intervals before half-time when they led 5-0. Carruthers hit his second and there were strikes from Alan Blair, Graham Close and Kevin Smith.
Frizington have brought in Workington Reserve team manager Herbert Briggs and he in turn has recruited Brian Rutherford and Lee McCullough, both of whom made their debuts in this Cup game.
Rutherford came on after 55 minutes and McCullough played the last 15 after replacing McMullen who had scored just before coming off to make it six.
McCullough made a big impact as he set up Smith with a great pass and he finished with a thumping shot.
Then McCullough twice supplied Dean Rodgers to make it 9-0 before Ryan Sisson put White Star into double figures.
It was rather apt that McCullough himself finished off the scoring by scoring number 11 from a great solo effort.
Aspatria extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to nine points after their latest victory over Cleator Moor Celtic.
Richard Hudson, Ben Gregory, Mark Irwin and Craig Wilson netted for the league leaders who will face Carlisle City in the County Cup this Saturday.
That takes preference over their cup game against Salterbeck which will be played at a later date.
St Margaret Mary’s got back to winning ways in the league as Phillip Hetherington and Peter Osgood scored to give them a 2-0 victory over Windscale.
League Champions Netherhall went through 4-1 in the County Cup against Keswick despite conceding a goal on two minutes.
They dominated the rest of the half without being able to score but they did in the second half as Andrew Laws (2), Daniel Burgess and Nick Holden netted.
Longtown beat Hearts of Liddesdale 4-2 and Wigton Athletic went out to Wetheriggs 4-1. Alex Crawford netted for Wigton.
