Tackling a crisis

OVER the years Sellafield has supported – and even founded a lifeline for – many local organisations, including our professional rugby club. It is sad to learn of Whitehaven RLFC’s present financial plight and clearly the club is in urgent need of more help not only to get them over current difficulties to plan for the future.
Professional RL has been going in Whitehaven since 1948, and as we’ve said before it is very much part of the heritage of the town: some would say its heart and soul.
The full state of affairs won’t be officially disclosed until April when a special shareholders’ meeting will be held. But while the figures will make for depressing reading, the hope is that by then a helping hand or two might be on the way. August will see Haven’s 60th anniversary, around the time Status Quo come to play at The Recre – here’s hoping for sweeter music on the rugby side.
