WHITEHAVEN Amateurs took full advantage of a depleted league programme as they jumped up four places after an emphatic 5-0 home win over Hearts of Liddesdale.

Stephen Priestly was the man on form as he helped himself to a hat-trick and was joined on the score-sheet by Andrew Dalling who scored both the other goals.

An under-strength Hearts side only had 10 men and, to add to their woes, they were late for the kick-off so it was not a good weekend for the Maroons.

The ISS Waterers Peter Dawson Benevolent Cup quarterfinals were completed at the weekend with victories for Frizington White Star and Silloth.

For the second week in a row, Premier Division Salterbeck crashed out of a cup competition to a First Division side.

This time it was Division One leaders Frizington who travelled to Walker Road and left on the back of a 3-2 victory.

Andrew Rowntree scored both goals for the home side but Alan Blair (2) and Dean Rodgers fired Frizington into the semi-finals.

Parton United and Silloth contested the final semi-final place and it was a tight call before the north Cumbrians got through by a solitary goal.

Parton had to give up home advantage as their pitch was unplayable. A single Paul Hayton strike sealed it for Silloth.

Manager John Slack had high praise for the Parton United keeper Neil Benson as he pulled of some fantastic saves.

Silloth join Frizington White Star, Wigton Harriers and Netherhall. Holders Longtown are out so a new name will be on the Benevolent Cup this season.

The CFM Whitehaven Cup semi-final line up sees Cleator Moor Celtic, Frizington White Star, Aspatria and holders Cockermouth. Both semi-final draws will be made this week.

Clubs are reminded that all trophies must be returned to the league by the start of April and any team thinking of resigning must put it in writing by the end of March to the league secretary.
