Rangers fail to halt Stanningley winning streak

EGREMONT Rangers’ hopes of ending their season with a flourish were dealt a blow when Stanningley completed their 10th successive victory.
Egremont were first to trouble the scorers when Warren Stainton landed an excellent penalty goal in defiance of the windy conditions.
They were holding their own reasonably well until injury suddenly robbed them of Ben Walker, Stainton, and wingman Craig Roberts.
It was to be a long and arduous afternoon for those left to face an increasingly confident Stanningley team, and there was little respite to be found.
Stanningley nosed ahead and it was 10-2 at the interval, though, in truth, Egremont attacks were few and far between and they were helpless in preventing Stanningley gradually extending their lead throughout the second half.
However, it was Egremont who, against the odds, had the final word. John-Paul Brocklebank finished well to bring down the curtain on the match with a consolation try.
Next Saturday, Egremont host Milford Marlins (2.30pm kick-off).
