CALDER were made to pay the penalty in the President’s Cup when they missed three spot kicks in crashing out 2-1 to Thornhill.
Brian Bell opened the scoring for Calder in the first half of the quarter-final tie with a rebound from a Gary Burns shot. Two Calder penalties were then missed, through Bragg and Bell, before Shaw hit a last minute equaliser for Thornhill.
A second from Shaw in extra-time put Thornhill in front, and when Carl McGrady missed another Calder spot-kick – saved by Dolan – they knew it wasn’t going to be their day. Thornhill now visit St Bees Village in the semi-finals.
Cleator Moor tightened their grip on Division One with a 3-1 defeat of Calder, while in Division Two, St Bees did the same, winning 4-2 at Gosforth.
There were wins for Bransty, Thornhill and Mirehouse in the top flight, while Kells got a point at Brow.
Mirehouse and Cleator Moor booked semi-final berths in the John Dixon Memorial Trophy, with victories over Kit Horns and Bransty respectively.
St Bees Village won 4-2 at Frizington, in the only top flight clash, with Moor Row, scraping home 2-1 at Lowca in Division Two. The derby clash at Wath Brow in the Divisional Cup ended in a 4-1 win for Top House.
