AT the latest monthly meeting the chairwoman announced a trip to Belsay quilt show on Saturday July 5, with a visit to a quilt shop on the way.
She then passed over the meeting to guest speaker Pat Archibald. The meeting had been altered so we could have a talk and class by the this well know Scottish quilter.
Pat used to own a quilt shop in Scotland but now is a full-time quilt teacher who gives talks to groups all over England – and we can understand why after a wonderful talk on colour.
We found that colours can change the feel of a quilt and that just by adding a touch of one colour you can mute a quilt or add a zing to it add lime, yellow or another vivid colour and it can change a quilt completely – add purple or blue and it will change again. Colours can alter the way you feel about a quilt, whatever pattern is used, and the choice of colour can make a hugh difference how your feel about a quilt.
The next day members met for a workshop with Pat which consisted of using silks, velvets, sheers and gold or silver foil to create four panels which could be used to make two bags or a wall hanging – we all learned such a lot and Pat was an excellent teacher.
The next meeting will be held as normal on the third Wednesday of the month at Calderbridge village hall at 7-30 – this month is a talk on Hungarian blue and the fabric basket is a fat 1/4 of blue and white material. The next talk and workshop is by another Scottish quilter in June and it is Georgina Chapman – everyone is welcome to both meetings a warm welcome is assured as I am sure visitors to last month’s meeting can testify.
The group can be contacted on 01946 841365 or 07939 579677.
