Cricket: Sandwith Roofing Cup

TOP batting performances from Alex Chambers and Andrew Kirk helped Distington book their place in the quarter-final of the Sandwith Roofing Cup at the expense of Royal George.

Kirk retired on 23 and Chambers retired on 19 to give Distington 106-8, in reply to George’s earlier 103-8. Adrian Dodds bowled well for Distington to take 2-10, while Barry Warbrick (22), Willie Yeoman (22) and Jonty Easthope (20) helped George to their total.

Distington will meet Allonby in the quarter-final, who beat Cockermouth Colts. John Jenkinson (22 ret) and Adam Johnson (20 ret) helped Allonby to 97-9 in reply to Cockermouth’s 95, for whom Barun Masra and Jamie Fisher both retired on 20.

Steve Holmes (Allonby) and Rob Graham (Colts) each took 2-6 on the bowl.

The other quarter-final will see Sandwith Roofing meet BCMS. Sandwith (68-5) beat Egremont (67) to get there. Lewis Stainton bowled well for Sandwith (2-11), while James Hocking (20 ret) and Dan Rice (22 ret) performed well in defeat for Egremont.

Good batting from Steven Bragg (23 ret), Andrew Ireland (20 ret) and Wayne Nixon (22 ret) sent BCMS on their way to a winning 95-7 against Maryport, for whom Mark Shepherd retired on 22.

Due to the odd number of teams competing in this season’s tournament, Cockermouth Academicals and Broughton are already through to the semi-finals following their victories last midweek.

Cockermouth (116-9) beat Isel (86-7) and Broughton (76) beat West Cumbria Law Society (41).

In the Crisp & Rowell Shield quarter-finals, Egremont will meet Maryport and Royal George will play Cockermouth Colts. The winner of these ties will meet in the semi and the winner of that game will play WCLS or Isel in the final.
