Drunk man in cafe

A MAN’S drunken behaviour in the town-centre Subway food outlet scared off customers and frightened staff.
Richard Newton, 46, of Montreal Close, Cleator Moor, was fined £60 for a public order offence.
He had ordered a tea and a sandwich and fallen asleep at the table.
Assistant Tracy Routledge was afraid to wake him. She had tried to get him out of the shop but he was swearing, she was frightened and shaken, Whitehaven magistrates heard.
In police interview later, Newton said he had been drinking lager.
His solicitor, Val Hendren, said her client accepted his behaviour was out of order and was genuinely sorry.
He couldn’t remember what had happened. He believed medication in his system may have been affected by the drink.
